Event / announcement: Scheduled publication: 5 November 2026

HarperCollins has scheduled a special hardback edition of The Fall of Númenor and Other Tales from the Second Age of Middle-earth for 5 November 2026. The publisher lists 352 pages and ISBN 9780008848842.

The edition is illustrated by Alan Lee and includes decorated page edges, a removable art card and a foldout colour map. Brian Sibley is credited as editor of the compilation of Tolkien’s published Second Age writings.

The physical extras make this a distinct proposition for collectors. Readers buying primarily for the narrative should recognise that the announcement concerns a new presentation of the compilation, rather than a previously unknown Tolkien account of the Second Age.

Its timing also creates a bridge between screen interest and reading. A viewer following the new television season can turn to a book assembled from Tolkien’s writings, then consider the choices that turn a wide body of material into either a chronicle or a television story. The two forms ask for different kinds of attention.
