Event / announcement: Exhibition closes 8 November 2026

Visitors have only a few days left to see Aubusson tisse Tolkien at the Musée Jean-Lurçat et de la Tapisserie contemporaine in Angers. The museum lists 8 November 2026 as the final day of the exhibition.

The presentation follows the transformation of Tolkien’s drawings into monumental textiles through the Aubusson tapestry project. The museum’s closing-weekend programme includes guided visits on 8 November, allowing visitors to explore the making of the works as well as their finished appearance.

Woven form changes the encounter with an image. Texture and scale become part of what a visitor reads, while colour has to work through the material rather than remain on the surface of a page. The exhibition therefore concerns acts of interpretation as well as the images that prompted them.

The approaching closure makes this the final opportunity to see that presentation in Angers. Visitors should consult the museum for the availability of particular guided sessions. The end date applies to this exhibition, while the city’s separate Voyage en Terre du Milieu continues into 2027.
