Event / announcement: 10 April 2026–23 May 2027

The closing date of Angers’ Tolkien tapestry exhibition does not mark the end of the city’s Middle-earth programme. The Muséum des sciences naturelles lists Voyage en Terre du Milieu as running until 23 May 2027.

The museum describes the exhibition through the idea of a cabinet of curiosities placed within an imagined wing of a Gondorian palace. It accompanies the tapestry exhibition but has its own venue and a longer run.

The different end dates matter for visitors, but the difference in approach is equally interesting. A cabinet of curiosities invites an audience to look at a world through objects, their arrangement and the questions a collection can generate.

Placed in an imagined Gondorian setting, that museum convention offers a route into Middle-earth through the experience of discovery. It is a separate proposition from looking at Tolkien’s pictures in woven form. The longer run gives visitors more time to explore it; the natural-history museum’s current information should be used for admission and opening arrangements.
