How comparisons are made

A useful comparison identifies both the literary source and the particular adaptation. It asks what has changed, what dramatic purpose the change serves, and what is gained or lost. It does not treat a visual resemblance or a popular theory as confirmation of an unwritten history.

Publication dates and on-screen chronology are different kinds of information. Upcoming productions and casting claims require dated, attributable announcements. Detailed film, episode and cast guides are part of the continuing expansion, and are not yet a complete reference collection.
