How we read Tolkien
We publish original criticism, not new stories set in Tolkien’s fictional world. We cite books and chapters, identify conflicting versions, and label our interpretations. New editorial pages use typography rather than unlicensed film stills, maps or Tolkien artwork.
Tolkienology is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Tolkien Estate, Tolkien Trust, HarperCollins, Middle-earth Enterprises or film and television rights holders. Names and titles are used for identification and critical discussion. Rights in the original works remain with their respective owners.
